Much has been said about Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology-Bhopal. It has been lately in news. I have read many facts and figures in newspapers about my own college. Many allegations have been levelled at college administration. What bothers me is that one of the newspaper is actually on a mission against MANIT. They have covered entire story ,they have bothered to assign very important space of 2 pages to story of Manit. Thanks to them
for being well wishers of Manit but their story is one-sided and their journalists seem to bear ill-will for our college. Iam not saying everything is fine with college, indeed there is no college where everything is fine. What has been in newspapers is like :
1.During campus interviews, professors help students cheat.
2.Exams are of no relevance as students either get papers or because copies are
checked internally ,the entire process doesnt really makes sense and is kind of formality.
3.Interviews with some of ex-faculties highlighting irregularities in college.
4.Lots of matter in newspaper about Training and Placement cell. and much more.
Journalists should have taken little pain to probe the matter rather than publishing highlights of a report or interviews of ex-faculties and staff. Their allegations against faculty members doesnt concern me, its upto MHRD,college administrarion and investigative agencies to find out the truth. What concerns me is their lies and one side of story that is bound to hurt image of this prestigious institution. Before publishing some of their cover page stories, they should have verified their claims. Professors help us cheat , we get exam papers, exams are kind of
formality , then how come few students fail if we get papers ? and why there is so much difference in marks obtained...This story has absolutely no truth in it.Anybody has any doubt regarding our classes we welcome them to come some day and make themselves comfortable with the fact that classes are held daily and their is attendence policy in action which asks for mininmum of 75% attendence.
Look at our placement figures and no one can beleive this is the same college lately in news for all the wrong reasons. Journalists are unaware of sheer hardwork and sincerity of students working in Training and Placement cell. Various news magazines have ranked our college in top 30 engineering colleges of India. MANIT is being seriously considered as an option by panel setup by MHRD for the purpose of establishing more IITs.And as per some sources
MANIT has all the chances to be next IIT.Manit is on top of list chosen after assesing dozens of colleges across India.(also published in RAJ EXPRESS). Now all this assessment done by central agencies clearly contradicts with reports in local daily 'DAINIK BHASKAR'.All local newspapers and i should rather say all news papers published from anywhere in Madhya Pradesh should start a campaign to make MANIT an Indian Institute of Technology as this college has all the potential to be an IIT as indicated by several reports submitted to MHRD and this will be very proud moment for all of us if our state gets bestowed with an IIT.
Media has overlooked interest of students in entire affair and is indifferent to student interest. A university is known not by its infrastructure or faculties but by students enrolled there. So much of negative publicity has harmed interests of students. They have ignored efforts of students working for betterment of college. We have a Student body which takes care of all student activities be it cultural, sports, literaray or even pure fun. Some years back MANIT was MACT,a REC and this has taken joint efforts of administration and students to work for overall
betterment. It has been a tough journey, a road uphill all the way.College has undergone so many reforms and students have co-operated with administration and have initiated some of reforms. A national level technical fest is organized every year with students from all over India attending it but media didnt paid much attention to it,only a small column some where near classifieds.Ripple ,another nation level fest held annually doesnt really attract media.Dozens of other activities like workshops on Robotics, mechatronics, computer engineering and information
technology. Also workshops on art of living.Seminars by reputed professors from IITs n NITs,motivational lecture by internationally acclaimed Mr. Shiv khera and other notable speakers.Sportomaina ,one of its kind event. Cultural activities marked by presence of top singers and top groups like euphoria and aryans. All these things mainly go unnoticed even after informing about all these activities in advance in press conference called by college admin.and
student council. All these negative publicity is bound to bring disgrace to college and will hurt campus prospects. Highlighting only negative points and that too publishing unverified claims is cheap journalism and media that should work for public interest(in this case student interest) is misusing power of press and is adamant on settling personal scores and in their personal war they are doing injustice to students.
Even in the case media wanted to highlight irregularities and do good to college and ultimately do good to students ,student interest should have concerned them. A Local Daily has been very irresponsible and didnt even cared about future of thousands of students enrolled in Manit. They have not highlighted the cause of students, neither they have bothered to seek opinion from student community. Student community has worked so hard to provide necessary thrust
needed to make MANIT a national level college in true sense. And then one of the newspapers has tried to negate all the efforts and all the work done in last half a decade.
MANIT is one of top colleges in India and is on the way to be an IIT and we will continue to work in that direction no matter what comes.
